What is Voluma?
While many people watch for lines and wrinkles, volume loss in the face, particularly in the midface and cheeks, can also make you look older. Voluma XC, part of the Juvéderm family of injectable wrinkle fillers, is a hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to add or replace facial volume in the mid-face area, including the cheeks and malar pads. Voluma injections are especially great as an interim non-surgical step to provide volume and lift to the cheek area. Voluma is like a liquid facelift for those who’ve lost facial fullness. Juvéderm Voluma XC’s unique formula uses VYCROSS® technology, which makes the gel more efficient and tightly cross-linked to boost the amount of lift created by the injection, and the length of the results. Voluma is safe for deep injection in the subcutaneous and supraperiosteal planes to revive the ideal ogee curve and lift sagging skin. At Alford Facial Plastic Surgery in Houston, double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Eugene "Gene" Alford can help you address age-related volume loss with safe, long-lasting injections from Juvéderm Voluma XC.

Recovery
Juvéderm Voluma XC treatments are performed as an in-office procedure by Dr. Gene and you will be allowed to leave as soon as you feel able to resume your regular activities. Some patients may experience redness, bruising, or swelling at the injections sites, so you may take 1 – 2 days for recovery or cover any concerns with makeup. Dr. Gene recommends that Juvéderm Voluma XC patients follow up in 6 weeks so he can check your results and help you decide when to schedule your next appointment.

Good Candidates?
You are a good candidate for Juvéderm Voluma XC treatments if you have signs of volume loss (caused by age or other reasons) in your mid-face area that you would like to improve without surgery. Juvéderm Voluma XC is best for men and women who are at least 21-years-old, have realistic expectations, and are in good general health.
Possible Concerns?
Most of the side effects are minor (redness, swelling, bleeding, bruising) and should not last more than 2 weeks after the treatment. You should tell Dr. Gene about your full medical history, including any allergies, current prescription and over-the-counter medications, recent infections, and surgeries so he can determine if Juvéderm Voluma XC is the best and safest option for you.
Combining Treatments?
Juvéderm Voluma XC can also be a valuable adjunct to a surgical facelift since it will remove excess skin, while it restores volume and projection to the cheeks. Juvéderm Voluma XC can also be used in combination with other dermal fillers, like Restylane®, and Sculptra® plus BOTOX wrinkle relaxing treatments to achieve what is commonly called a liquid facelift. Juvéderm Voluma XC can also be used with facial fat injections to add more dramatic volume to the mid-face.
