What are Facial Implants?
New technologies in surgical implants now make it possible to change the proportion and balance of your facial features with facial augmentation. Instead of temporary fillers, like Juvéderm® or Restylane®, a chin or cheek implant provides shape and volume that does not need to be touched up every few months. A chin augmentation (also known as mentoplasty) reshapes and extends the chin in relationship to the nose, providing necessary balance to the profile. If you desire to improve your cheekbone structure or correct mid-facial hollows, depressions, and folds caused by aging, cheek implants can offer a long-lasting solution. Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Eugene "Gene" Alford can help you define and improve your entire face balance safely with chin or cheek implants. Facial implants can also be used to correct asymmetry in the face from a congenital condition or injury to the face. At Alford Facial Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX implants can be made in many shapes and sizes to fit your specific needs for a strong chin or youthful, voluminous cheeks.

"Had the pleasure of working with Dr Alford during my training. An excellent surgeon and human being!"- L.B. / Facebook / Apr 26, 2018
"Dr. Alford is my favorite doctor of all time, and I've had a LOT of doctors. When others docs told me there was nothing they could do to repair my nose after cancer resection caused it to deviate and sit beneath my eye, he scoffed and said he could help. His life experiences have made him a doctor with rare insight into what his patients are experiencing ... losing the life we once had, handling depression, and trying to make the most of what we have. He is a kind and gentle man but tells the truth about expectations. I cannot say enough good things about him. If you have found him and decide to be one of his patients, you are a lucky person indeed."- S.H. / Google / Apr 06, 2018

Placing chin or cheek implants takes around 2 hours as an outpatient procedure. The surgical implants used at Alford Facial Plastic Surgery are medical-grade, silastic or Gore-Tex® forms and specified to meet your individual aesetheic goals. These man-made products have been used by plastic surgeons for more than 30 years, and there is no evidence that either of these products has any harmful effects on the human body and are considered completely safe.
Recovery from these facial augmentation surgeries involves minimal discomfort, but many patients prefer a soft or liquid diet for the first few days. You should return for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Gene 1 week after your surgery so he can measure your recovery and check for any signs of concern. Most normal activities can be resumed within 2 – 3 weeks. Please contact Alford Facial Plastic Surgery if you have any signs of infection or problems.
The results of a facial implant are usually visible right away, but it will take time before the final results are visible when the swelling is gone and the implant settles into position. With proper care, the scars from the surgical incision should be smooth and flat so they are difficult to see. The results from your new implants should be long lasting, but you should schedule an appointment with Dr. Gene if you notice any changes or have concerns.
What do Facial Implants Cost?
Facial augmentation with either a chin implant or cheek implants typically costs around $2,000 - $3,000. Combining other surgeries, like chin liposuction or a facelift, will increase the total cost, but you can save duplicate expense fees (like anesthesia or hospital). An estimate of costs will be provided by Dr. Gene during your consultation.

Facial implants can help anyone who does not have enough excess fat for a transfer or wants longer lasting results that injectable dermal fillers. Chin implants can create a stronger profile and help to define the jawline. Cheek implants can improve the definition and volume of the cheeks for a more youthful appearance. Facial implants can also correct asymmetry or deformities in the face from injury or medical conditions.
Incisions and Scars?
A chin implant is usually placed through an incision on the underside of the chin or inside the mouth, so the scar should be almost or entirely invisible when it heals. Cheek implants are usually inserted through small incisions in the mouth or near the brow or eyelid that should blend well with the natural skin once the scar has finished healing. Dr. Gene will go over tips and tricks to help your incisions heal fast and clean.
A chin implant is often performed with other cosmetic procedures such as rhinoplasty, as nasal surgery alone may not significantly improve facial appearance if the chin is underdeveloped. Chin liposuction, a neck lift, facelift, or mid-facelift added to cheek implants can revive and rejuvenate several signs of aging. If you have enough excess fat, a fat transfer to the face can provide very natural-looking volume in the cheeks. Some patients may consider trying dermal fillers, like Voluma® or Radiesse®, to decide how much volume they want before undergoing cheek implants.
