What is a Cheek Lift?
Fullness in the face is a sign of both beauty and youth. Unfortunately, time and gravity deflate natural pads of fat, which robs the face of its fullness. An area that can be especially hard hit is the mid-face, which is the area from the lower eyelids to the outside corners of the mouth. As the mid-face descends and flattens from loss of volume, it often makes you appear tired and older than you are. A mid-face lift can restore the youthful contour and 3-D projection that will rejuvenate the face. There are several techniques for mid-face lifting used by Dr. Eugene "Gene" Alford at Alford Facial Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX including a fat transfer to the face or cheek implants added during a mid-face lift in order to maximize contour and projection. Dr. Gene will consult with you to determine the best technique for you based on your facial structure, any previous facial surgeries, and your aesthetic goals to create your unique cheek lift surgical plan.

"Had the pleasure of working with Dr Alford during my training. An excellent surgeon and human being!"- L.B. / Facebook / Apr 26, 2018
"Dr. Alford is my favorite doctor of all time, and I've had a LOT of doctors. When others docs told me there was nothing they could do to repair my nose after cancer resection caused it to deviate and sit beneath my eye, he scoffed and said he could help. His life experiences have made him a doctor with rare insight into what his patients are experiencing ... losing the life we once had, handling depression, and trying to make the most of what we have. He is a kind and gentle man but tells the truth about expectations. I cannot say enough good things about him. If you have found him and decide to be one of his patients, you are a lucky person indeed."- S.H. / Google / Apr 06, 2018

Cheek lift surgery usually takes about 2 – 4 hours. Small incisions are made in the temple, close to the hairline along with 2 minor punctures in the cheeks to give the plastic surgeon access to the cheek tissue and muscle. Fine sutures are used to pull up the fat pads until they are in the best position. Once each cheek is raised and matched for facial symmetry, the plastic surgeon will close the incisions and send the patient to the recovery area.
After surgery is complete, you will have an overnight stay in the hospital so your recovery can be monitored carefully. Once Dr. Gene confirms that it is safe, you will be released to continue your recovery at home. You will come back to Alford Facial Plastic Surgery a week after your surgery to have your progress checked and any sutures removed. Most patients need about 1 – 2 weeks of rest before resuming their normal activity. Specific recovery instructions and tips will be discussed before and after surgery.
Once the bruising and swelling are gone, your results will start to be visible. At first, the cheeks may appear too high or over-corrected, but this is to account for changes as the cheeks adjust and settle into their final position. Once the cheeks are in place, you should protect your new lifted cheeks from environmental damage with sunscreen and a regular skin care routine. Since natural aging will continue, you can return to Dr. Gene to discuss touch-up treatments and ways to refresh your cheek lift.

A mid-facelift is a good option for anyone who has lost cheek volume from age or other causes and wants a youthful appearance that is subtler than a full facelift. Using advanced techniques, Dr. Gene aims to achieve a result that lifts the cheeks for a natural-looking improvement that refreshes your entire face.
Incisions and Scars?
A cheek lift uses minimal incisions at the hairline near the temple, so with proper care, the surgical scars will blend easily with the hairline for nearly invisible incision lines. Before and after surgery, Dr. Gene will give you instructions on scar care management that will promote fast, clean healing so your incisions are smooth and flat.
A cheek lift can be complemented by several other facial plastic surgeries, including a full facelift, a brow lift, or a lower eyelid lift. A fat transfer or cheek implants can be used if you do not have enough fat in the cheeks to meet your aesthetic goals. During your consultation, Dr. Gene can explain his recommendations for your surgical plan and potential results can be viewed with Mirror Imaging software for the most informed decision.
