Dr. Eugene L. Alford MD FACS is a world renowned specialist in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery having authored more than 45 original peer reviewed articles, 14 original book chapters, and given over 100 invited lectures both nationally and internationally. He’s served on the editorial board of 10 national medical journals, been an Invited Guest Professor at 14 different U.S. and International Medical Schools and appeared on the OPRAH Show, Larry King Live, The Discovery Channel, and most of the local Houston Television Stations as an expert in Facial Plastic Surgery.
In business since 1992, Dr. Alford’s passion is cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head, and neck with a special emphasis and expertise in rhinoplasty. With his training in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery and his vast experience in reconstructive surgery, Dr. Alford understands the deeper anatomy of the face, enabling him to create a solid foundation of support for the changes in the surface of the skin. His goal is to improve, not alter, a person’s appearance. The end result is a balancing of the facial features so that the nose, brow, eyes and neck all fit together to make you look more well rested, youthful, and vibrant.
In addition to his cosmetic work, Dr. Alford and his colleague, Dr. Charles N.S. Soparkar MD PhD, have a special expertise in the treatment of a variety of eye problems including thyroid eye disease, Graves disease, fractures, and tumors of both the eye and skull base. Together, Drs. Alford and Soparkar have performed more thyroid eye disease surgeries than any other group in the United States.
Dr. Alford also excels in the treatment of tumors, both benign and malignant, of the face, head and neck as well as reconstruction following the removal of skin cancers such Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, or Melanoma. Dr. Alford not only achieves a beautiful cosmetic and functional reconstruction, but the procedure will be done in such a way as to not compromise the cure of the malignancy.
Dr. Alford is the recipient of many awards for his charitable work (see his complete Curriculum Vitae for a list) and is uniquely situated to feel empathy for those who are disabled as he suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down in December of 2007. After 10 months in the hospital and grueling rehabilitation, Dr. Alford ultimately persevered, and now performs his surgeries from an electric wheelchair that allows him to stand and operate normally. He continues his recovery with daily work at home and supervised rehab at The Methodist Hospital Outpatient Rehab Department. His inspirational story can be read in full at Reader’s Digest Magazine. Dr. Alford is married to Dr. Mary Alford DDS and has three children John, Bess, and Charles.
